Dr. Irene Galan graduated from Alfonso X El Sabio University in Madrid in 2013, and she moved to the US in 2014 to pursue further veterinary training.

Before joining the AMCS, Irene did a veterinary internship at The Raptor Center of the University of Minnesota, working with birds of prey from 2014-2015. She then earned a Master of Science in Conservation Medicine at Tufts University. After completing her MS in 2017, Irene pursued further training at the Long Island Bird and Exotics Veterinary Clinic in New York, where she completed an internship in 2018. In 2020, she achieved ECFVG certification and secured her permanent veterinary license in the U.S. Irene then worked as a Veterinarian at The Potter League Pets in Need Veterinary Clinic, Spay/Neuter Clinic and shelter in Rhode Island from 2020-2022. Lastly, Irene completed an internship in emergency / specialty medicine and surgery at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists (OSVS) in 2023. Since then, Irene has worked as an emergency veterinarian at OSVS and at PetMedic, an urgent care facility. At work, Irene enjoys fast-paced environments and managing complex cases as well as performing soft tissue surgeries.

Outside of work, Irene enjoys spending time outdoors, hiking, climbing, and traveling. She also loves gardening and relaxing with her husband, family, and friends. And spending time with her two dogs, and a cat.
